SBCSG Awards 2026: Announcing our Technical Apprentice Nominees

We at Swansea Bay Construction Support Group are delighted to announce the nominees for our upcoming awards, which will take place on 25 June at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The awards recognise the progress and achievements of apprentices, new entrants and emerging talent who are going above and beyond in the South Wales construction industry. The technical category recognises apprentices working across quantity surveying, design and project support roles, contributing to the planning, commercial management and delivery of construction projects while building experience and confidence in their chosen field.

Here are our technical apprentice nominees for 2026:

Oliver Jones – Morganstone

Oliver, a technical assistant at Morganstone, has made an exceptional contribution since joining the team, progressing from a promising learner into an indispensable member of the business. He demonstrates strong analytical ability, quickly grasping complex systems, alongside a clear commitment to understanding the “why” behind each task and consistently delivering work to a high standard of precision. Over the past 12 months, his CAD skills have developed significantly, enabling him to take on key responsibilities including crane radius drawings, traffic management plans, and plot setting out. He has also gained a strong understanding of consultant appointments and collateral warranties, independently managing scheduling, communication, and document control. Known for his initiative and reliability, Oliver balances college and work effectively, is proactive in resolving issues before they escalate, and is highly respected by colleagues and the wider supply chain for his calm, professional and dependable approach.

Joseph Humphreys – ASW Property Services

Joseph, a trainee quantity surveyor at ASW Property Services, has made a strong impression throughout his apprenticeship, consistently demonstrating a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a strong work ethic. He has quickly developed both his technical knowledge and on-site skills, taking real pride in his work and consistently focusing on delivering tasks safely and to a high standard. Joseph works well within the team, is not afraid to step up when challenges arise, and is always willing to support others when needed. He has shown clear potential and is already establishing himself as a valuable member of the team.

Oliver Williams – R&M Williams

Oliver, a trainee quantity surveyor at R&M Williams, has demonstrated exceptional technical understanding, practical application and professional growth throughout his apprenticeship. Approaching two years in the role, he has quickly developed a strong grasp of core commercial functions including measurement, cost planning, subcontract procurement and financial control, becoming a valued member of the team. His work on the £25 million Croft Street development in Swansea highlights his attention to detail and methodical approach, supporting the management of the groundwork package through accurate records, subcontract applications and financial reporting. He has also shown strong critical thinking and innovation, evidenced by his suggestion to use an excavation vacuum machine as an alternative to traditional methods, improving efficiency, and delivering cost savings. Alongside this, Oliver has grown in confidence, becoming an engaged team member who contributes to discussions, asks informed questions and shows a strong desire to fully understand his work. His curiosity, work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement make him a highly promising apprentice.

Curtis Richards – Tilbury Douglas

Curtis, a trainee quantity surveyor at Tilbury Douglas, has made a strong impression since joining the business in August 2023, quickly developing a strong understanding of measurement, cost planning, subcontract procurement and financial control, while gaining valuable site experience supporting live project delivery. Alongside his role, he is studying a HND in quantity surveying, part time at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, with plans to progress onto the degree in September and work towards RICS membership. He has shown strong initiative, including developing a subcontractor supply chain schedule which improved the approved supply chain database and led to his involvement with Tilbury Douglas’s wider management team and attendance at the Supply Chain Conference. Curtis also manages subcontractor compliance processes, contributes to tender activities, and supports the commercial team with valuations, procurement and subcontract account reviews on the Croft Street development in Swansea. Over the past six months, he has further developed his practical understanding of construction delivery through his role as Project Assistant on site. Overall, he has demonstrated strong technical ability, professionalism and initiative, and is continuing to establish himself as a highly capable and promising quantity surveying professional.

Liam Miles – Tilbury Douglas

Liam, a trainee quantity surveyor at Tilbury Douglas, has shown strong development since joining the business in July 2023, while studying towards a HNC in quantity surveying at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Working within the South Wales Quantity Surveying team, he has quickly established himself as a proactive and dependable team member, contributing across a range of school and local authority projects. He has gained valuable experience supporting project delivery through on-site remeasurement, subcontract final accounts, client engagement and subcontractor pre-let meetings, including chairing meetings prior to order placement. Liam also demonstrates a strong aptitude for technology and software systems, regularly supporting colleagues and helping improve team efficiency through his IT and BIM capabilities. Alongside his day-to-day responsibilities, he actively engages in training and development opportunities, is a student member of the Chartered Institute of Building and is exploring future RICS membership. He has also supported Tilbury Douglas’s social value initiatives through community work, fundraising, and engagement with local schools to promote careers in construction. His commitment to learning, positive attitude and willingness to take on responsibility continue to mark him out as a highly promising young professional within the construction industry, and a role model to future apprentices.
