Swansea Bay Construction Support Group Awards

Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2023

At Swansea Bay Construction Support Group, we are proud to support National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), which is being celebrated from 6th – 12th of February 2023. The theme for this year is ‘Skills for Life’.

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is an opportunity for the education and skills sector to celebrate the achievements of apprentices around the country and the positive impact they make to communities, businesses, and the wider economy.

Apprenticeships are particularly important within the construction industry as 266,000 construction workers are needed by 2026. Apprenticeships are vitally important to us, as our overall aim is to promote the benefits of considering the construction industry as a career path.

We also work closely with Cyfle Building Skills, an organisation that manages a shared apprenticeship scheme in South West Wales for the construction industry. Some 90% of apprentices who complete the three years with Cyfle Building Skills secure full-time employment in their chosen trade.

One of these is Dalton Brown (pictured far right), who began as a Technical Apprentice with our partner, Cyfle Building Skills, before going on to a Higher Apprenticeship with our member, ASW Property Services and was awarded Best Technical Apprentice 2022 at our annual awards. Dalton’s current role is as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with ASW Property Service. He started the first year of his degree in September and is due to graduate in the summer of 2024.

Our involvement

SBCSG and Cyfle Building Skills will be supporting national apprenticeship week at the following events:

  • Monday February 8 and Thursday, February 9 at Gower College Jubilee Court
  • Wednesday, February 8 and Friday, February 10 at Neath College, Llansamlet campus, in collaboration with NPTC Group.

At the above events, we will be speaking to full-time construction students about potential apprenticeship opportunities with organisations within our network. It is also an opportunity to sign up for work experience, and a chance to try our virtual reality equipment for construction-related activities.

Both colleges are holding open evenings on Wednesday, February 8 if you would like to find out more about apprenticeships.

All week, there will be Apprentice Information Sessions on Teams, a full breakdown of each session can be found here.
